Uniform

Uniform Policy All students are expected to wear correct school uniform at all times other than where reasonable adjustments have been made due to particular needs. Students attending this school benefit from its reputation and we expect pupils to help to maintain that reputation by their high standards of behaviour and appearance, both in school and in the local community. At Staindrop Academy, our priority is on outstanding education for all of our students.  It is unacceptable for teachers to have to use valuable teaching and learning time debating with students whether or not they are wearing correct school uniform.  To avoid such situations, which disrupt effective learning and can damage working relationships,  parents are expected  to ensure  that  their children wear the correct school uniform and follow the school’s dress and appearance code at all times. Our uniform shows we are all part of one school. We enforce it strictly. Uniform must be worn as detailed. It is not open to interpretation. We are aware that many chain stores sell items marked as school uniform, but which do not conform to the Academy Uniform Policy. Please do not put yourself to additional expense in buying items which will have to be replaced.  Outdoor clothing, including coats, hats and scarves must not be worn inside the school building. We advise that all items of clothing (including PE kit) are clearly marked with the student’s name, in order that mislaid items can be returned promptly to the rightful owner. Uniform

Bags Every student will require a bag that can fit an A4 folder in.  Failure to bring a bag to school will result in a lunch time detention. Second-hand uniform The school will hold second-hand school uniforms in the school office for parents to access. Parents will be invited to donate their child’s uniform when they no longer need it. Mobile Phones
  • We understand that some students may need their phone for travelling to and from school but they should not be seen on the school site in school hours
  • Students are not allowed to use mobile phones on the school site
  • If students are seen with their phone it will be confiscated and collected at the end of the school day. Refusal to hand the phone over will result in a detention or further sanctions depending on the nature and frequency of the incident.
  • The phone will be stored in a secure location for the period of time it is away from the student. This can be collected from the designated area at the end of the school day.
  • If a phone is confiscated twice in a half term, it will then be handed in to Year Leader each day. If the second confiscation happens in the final 2 weeks of the half term then the student will need to hand their phone in each morning for the remainder of that half term and the whole of the next half term.
  • This process will continue for persistent offenders with further sanctions used at Year Leader discretion.
  • This will be recorded on class charts phone icon by the member of staff who confiscates the phone
  • Air pods/ear phones are not allowed to be worn in school, if they are, they will be confiscated along with the mobile device they are connected to. The same process of handing in for the half term will apply for air pods/ear phones
  • Mobile phones cannot be used on the school site. This includes recording/photography of students/staff/school building at any time.
  • Sharing of inappropriate content in school and out of school is not allowed and will be sanctioned accordingly.
Equipment It is essential that students have the items listed below. This will support a smooth start to each lesson and ensure that teaching time is not wasted.

  • Black pen
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Eraser
  • Bag (big enough for an A4 file)
  • PE kit on days it is required
  • Food ingredients on days it is required
Failure to have any of the items stated above will result in a detention. Jewellery Checks will take place every morning before students start the day.  We appreciate your support with this as it is something that is completely in the control of students and parents as students leave the house each day.  The Uniform Policy is not open to interpretation other than for agreed actions due to EHCP or medical needs.  This information must be shared with the school before September.  Please email your SEN link or the school reception with this information.
  • First occasion – students will be asked to remove jewellery and it will be recorded
  • Second occasion and thereafter – jewellery will be removed and can be collected at the end of the day. For those who refuse to handover or are persistent, parents will collect the jewellery within school opening hours.
  • If jewellery is worn at any point after the bell sounds for the start of the school day, it will be confiscated.
For example, if a student walks past their Year Leader with incorrect jewellery on (this is the first occasion) then it will be removed by the student and recorded by the Year Leader.  If this happens again one morning as they enter school then it will be removed and confiscated.  Repeat offenders will be set further sanctions to the set lunch times. Uniform, Nails and Equipment
  • Uniform, nails and equipment will be checked every day on entry to the school and in tutor time
  • Coloured nail varnish, fake nails, nail gels and acrylic nails are not allowed.
  • Stationary equipment will be available to buy from the school canteen on a morning before school
