E-safety

There are three key elements of e-safety:

Online content

  • Online content is all about the material you see online.
  • For example, some content is only suitable for people of a certain age.
  • In school, when you’re using the school network, any unsuitable or unsafe content will be blocked automatically.
  • At home, or on your own mobile device, using your 4G connection, this may not be the case.
  • Some key guides for online content are:

Online conduct

  • Online conduct is about the way you behave whilst online, and about the way you behave towards others.
  • This includes using electronic devices for communication in a safe and proper, for example by not using them to bully other people.
  • Remember that your online activity leaves a digital footprint – this means that anything you do online (e.g. post or share on social media) can very easily end up being online forever. This is because even if you delete something from your own social media, it doesn’t mean no-one else has already copied it.
  • In other words, you should always think carefully before posting or sharing – do you want that post to be part of your digital footprint?
  • Some key guides for online conduct are:

Online contact

  • Online contact is about the people you speak to online.
  • You should be careful to only speak to people who you have met face-to-face.
  • You should never hand out personal information to someone you do not know.
  • Remember that online, someone can easily pretend to be someone they’re not.
