Home to School Transport Arrangements
Staindrop Academy operates its home to school transport arrangements under Durham County Council’s Home to School Transport policy which, from September 2012, states:
Pupils of compulsory school age are entitled to free home to school transport to:
the nearest suitable school, if that school is more than three miles from the parental home using the shortest available walking route. Routes are measured from the centre point of a pupil’s house, or in the case of a flat from the centre point of the building, to the nearest school entrance. The courts have defined an available route as one “along which a child accompanied as necessary can walk and walk with reasonable safety to school”.
Staindrop Academy is committed to ensuring that any child who wants to attend the school should not be disadvantaged by transport issues.
If your child would have qualified for free home to school transport under the old County Council transport arrangements (in effect before September 2012, which stated a distance of more than two miles) but they do not qualify under the new transport arrangements (in effect from September 2012, stating a distance of three miles) then please contact the school.
Behaviour on school buses
Transport to and from school is provided and regulated by the Local Authority. We expect high standards of behaviour on school contract buses and public transport used by our pupils to ensure the safety of all passengers.
